For the Good of the Chorus. PRACTICE.
Jimmy has mentioned this several times since becoming our Director. I’ve been, to the best of my ability, doing this for years both professionally and as a chorus member.
Rule of thumb…spend at least 15 minutes a day to PRACTICE. The practicing of your music does several things for you and benefits the chorus. These are learning moments. Every time you practice you strengthen your voice and the knowledge of the song. Relax, sing comfortably and find the notes. It is the muscle memory that can make you more confident.
Repetition…as you begin finding 15 minutes a day to better hone your voice and music, you may even be able to find more time to sing, ie, in your car driving to the store, work, meeting, any time will do. The more time you spend the more benefits will be bestowed on you and the chorus, making REHEARSAL flow better.
Keep singing daily. It might even help you during warmups.
It’s up to US to PRACTICE!
