I was introduced to barbershop music as a college Freshman by a fellow university choir member whose dad was a barbershopper in Pennsylvania. Our small ensemble of 8-10 guys sang around university and town functions for 4 years. After graduation I moved to Chattanooga and joined the chapter in 1975. I joined my first quartet (3 D’s and a Dad) the next year until 1978. Later that year I got a call from a local theater playhouse (named Backstage) in need of a barbershop quartet to perform in musical comedy written for Ethel Merman. We named the quartet Backstage and were allowed to sing real barbershop during the intermissions. Backstage remained together with its original members until 1986 when the lead moved to Houston. Backstage competed in many district and divisional contests finishing as high as fourth several times. We also attended Harmony College (1979-1982) and graduated with a B.S degree (Bachelor of Song). We formed a quartet named Stage II in 1988 with a new lead. Sometime in late 1990s we changed baritones and leads and a new name of 4 Guys.
I was a member and Tenor of the Choo Choo Chorus until 2005 and rejoined in 2021. I also sang with Cleveland's Sound of TN from 2006-2017 singing tenor or lead. Dan Bruns
