We’re back at it with Live singing starting September 2nd! Really missed being together the last two weeks but caution demanded we put things on pause. Let’s hope we can steam forward from now until the end of the year. A special shout out to Steve Wixson for his hilarious lyrics to Darkness on the Delta! Hopefully it put a smile on everyone’s face! See y’all Thursday! Until then, KTTWS! SteveG

    Directly Speaking

Thank you to all of you who were able to join us on Zoom meetings the last two weeks. We were able to look at some Christmas songs as well as sing through some of our “rep” songs. We were able to look at our new website and ask questions, and our new website is awesome! A special shout out to David Murphree for putting it all together for us. If you are an active member you should have received a log in for the members section, if you have not let us know ASAP. We really want to encourage you to utilize the tools this website gives us.

This Thursday we will resume in person gatherings. I look forward to our time together each week!

With our Friends and Family night coming up on Sep. 23 we will need to make sure our current “rep” songs are sounding as good as ever.

I hope to see YOU on Thursday! Jimmy

    A Dave Rack Memory

I was sorry to hear about my friend Dave's passing. When his wife's health declined he asked me to take his business manager role for the chorus. I rode with him to COTS training in his F-150 and many times from practice when I was recovering from a seizure. He was showing signs of dementia and had occasional falls while caring for his grandson so he moved to Alexion. We talked several times by phone during Covid restrictions. When Sheila and I made final plans we chose a cemetary plot at Mount Olivet. Unknown to us Dave's plot was one row away. I saw that his plot had a bench. I mentioned this to Dave and he said visitors to our plot were welcome to use his bench. He would put up a coffee can for donations. I'm guessing he never did that. Rich Ptacin

Our overall numbers were down on the Zoom meeting, but I understand why some chose not to participate. We listened to several song possibilities for our Christmas Show, and got a nice introduction to our new Website from David Murphree. We are slowly moving into the 21st Century! Let Jimmy know your thoughts concerning songs to be sung at this year’s Show!

Please know that our decision to cancel in person meetings for a couple of weeks was made out of extreme caution for our membership. No one wanted to put things on hold, but all felt it was the right call at this time. Let’s keep both Ron’s in our prayers as they are experiencing health issues. Zoom with us next Thursday if able; looking forward to seeing everyone at Ponder’s on September 3rd! Until then, KTTWS! SteveG

    Darkness Due To Delta

    When it's...darkness due to delta
and our hearts are feeling gloom
When it's darkness due to delta
Let us linger in the shelter of a Zoom

Men are singing all around me
    We’re singin' sweet and low
Lord, I'm lucky its not found me
That would be to me a really awful blow

    We’re Lounging by the TV
Listenin' to our Director calming our woes
    There’s Laughter on the TV
Cause no one's heart is heavy
Time to learn new songs for future shows

When it's darkness due to delta
And the end is not in sight
When it's darkness due to delta
Let’s prepare for when it is a normal night

    Let’s prepare.......for when it is.......a normal night.

With the rise of cases from the the Delta variant impacting the area, the Board has determined that we will use Zoom only for our weekly meetings the last two weeks of August. We hope to resume face to face gatherings September 2nd. Also, we have agreed to purchase a new Website administrator for the Chorus. It should meet every need imaginable for us. David Murphree will demo the site via Zoom one of these two weeks while we distance from each other. Our Friends & Family night (September 26th) and Christmas Show (December 4th) are still on the docket at present. “ See” y’all Thursday via Zoom! Until then, KTTWS. SteveG

We had a good night of rehearsal despite the news that Fall Convention has been canceled and our Friends & Family is presently on hold. Our singing in the round was very productive in my opinion. There were many men scurrying around to sing in various Quartets. The time spent singing in the old auditorium was also encouraging. We’re moving in the right direction! Until next time, KTTWS! SteveG

During our District Board meeting this weekend, we discussed ways to safely hold our 2021 Fall Contest in Oxford, AL. Unfortunately, after reviewing multiple scenarios, we decided that it would be in the best interest of the District if we do not hold convention this year. We are continuing to monitor trends as we navigate this difficult pandemic, and hope to bring good news soon about our Spring Convention in Alabaster, AL.

Our President, Paul Blazek, will go into more detail on our decision in the next Town Crier.

PS. I emailed members a learning track for their individual voice for You Tell Me Your Dream. Please listen to it and come prepared to sing it this Thursday. Click HERE for the link to all of our current songs.

    From The Prez

With the convention cancelled and the rise the Delta variant of COVID, the Family and Friends Night is on hold for now. We will discuss at the next rehearsal where to go from here.

Finally, we need to have our next Board Meeting on Thursday, August 12th, 6 PM, at Ponder’s prior to our rehearsal. David Murphree will be demonstrating a potential Website for us to consider utilizing. Until next time, KTTWS! SteveG

A heartfelt "thanks" to those who participated in the meeting. I am humbled by your hard work and time. I hope each of you walked away feeling you learned something, and your time was not wasted. We went over many different topics and subjects. I made insights to things most never even think of. I made one statement, that a great coach once shared, that was something "only the greats" know. So think of what I shared, and if you realize what it was? Share it with your brothers. Each of you have a gift. I appreciate you sharing it with me and letting me offer you what little I have.
